Australian Shepherds are very intelligent, loyal, quick learners, and eager to please, and they love to show their owners' unconditional love.  They are an energetic breed with strong herding and guarding instincts. They need a lot of activity and a sense of purpose to be genuinely content. Today, due to the breed’s intelligence and versatility, Aussies also excel in AKC and ASCA events such as agility, obedience, and herding.  Although sometimes reserved with strangers, they are people dogs that want to always be near their families.
